New to Big Lake Baseball?  Here's some information for you!

BLBA offers baseball for youth in grades K-10.  In general, teams are organized by grade level: Minors (Pre-K-K), Majors (1-2), Willie Mays (3-4), Pee Wee Reese (5-6), Sandy Koufax (7-8), and Mickey Mantle (9-10).

Players in grades Pre-K-K are placed on teams that play each other 1 night per week, with games scheduled on fields at area churches or city or township parks.  Grades 1-2 play two nights per week.  The K-2 season runs from mid-May to June.  The times are all in the evening, and we stress at the K-2 level to have fun, learn the game of baseball, and enjoy playing together.
Players in grades 3-8 go through evaluations in late winter to assess players’ skill levels and aid in making team roster assignments. Typically, the 12 players with the highest evaluation scores in each grade are placed on a traveling team that plays in the Gopher State AAA baseball league against other teams from the NW Metro or central MN.  Players that do not make the AAA team are then drafted into “in-house” teams that play against similarly skilled teams from Big Lake and surrounding communities.  Depending on the number of players that register, youth in grades 9 and 10 are placed onto 1 or 2 teams and play in either a Gopher State league or in a local league that includes teams from STMA, Delano, Hutchinson, and other west metro towns. Between practices and games, grade 3-10 teams are often playing baseball 3-4 nights a week from late April into late July.
Please note that the registration fee covers only basic operating expenses – equipment, uniforms, and insurance. We must raise additional funds for other needs, such as field improvements and maintenance, league fees, etc. To raise this money, we host several weekend tournaments in May, June, and July. These tournaments give Big Lake kids a chance to play free of charge, and they help BLBA raise money via concession sales and out of town team entry fees. Each BLBA family is required to volunteer 5 hours during the season, either by coaching or working tournament concessions.
