Good evening.

Today we received the sad news that Gopher State has made the difficult decision to cancel league operations for the 9u-19u community-baseball programming during the month of June.  They will be teaming with the Metro Baseball League to give options for a form of baseball for 2020:  the Baseball Alliance of Minnesota (BAM).  With this league, there is a good chance of additional traveling, as many associations around us have canceled for the 2020 season.

With that announcement, here's what will be happening:
A.  The BLBA will be refunding $95 to every player in the association, as Gopher State has essentially canceled their unique season.  Each family paid $100 per player, but we deducted a 5% processing fee--this is what BLBA gets charged through the website.

B.  If you have paid a traveling fee, that will be refunded on PayPal in the next few days.

C.  Groups can form their own "traveling teams" to compete in the BAM.

D.  BLBA will cover the insurance, but teams will cover all other costs (approximately $100 per player).

E.  All BLBA uniforms (jerseys/hats) will be handed out to grades 3-9.  Handout will be as follows:  June 6 @ the 4-plex: 10am-12pm; June 10 @ the 4-plex from 6pm-7:30pm.  Those are the ONLY two dates to pick up your jersey.  Pants/belts are not going to be handed out, as we are trying to recoup some of the lost money as we are taking a hit on the shirts and hats.

F.  For those not interested in this league, there will be a separate e-mail coming out about camps/trainings.  This will occur in June/July and will be FREE.

G.  If you're interested in leading/coaching a team, please e-mail me back for further details.

H.  If you have any questions, please reply to this e-mail.

Thanks!

Players and Parents:

For our in-house (Quad City League; QCL):  Monticello and Becker have closed shop on the summer season, thus QCL is not an option for In-House for 2020.  Monticello canceled their season yesterday and Becker did today.  I tried getting STMA to do an in-house league with us, but they already have something different planned.  Additionally, Princeton, Zimmerman, and Rogers have canceled.  The BLBA board has been working diligently to find a way for us to play baseball in 2020.

The BLBA board approved for one last-ditch option for in-house to play baseball for 2020 (if there's a season).  Gopher State has an "A" level, which based on previous experiences, is at least 1-2 steps above our current in-house level.  It would involve additional traveling (if there is a season) and an additional $40 or so to be in Gopher State.  At the "Rec" level at 10/11, teams in 2019 included:  Maple Grove, Hopkins, Sibley, STMA, Elk River, and Orono.  Please note:  Gopher State will be making a determination on their sponsored season by Tuesday, June 2.

Each family needs to fill out this SHORT questionnaire so we know your preferences.  If we don't hear back by Monday, June 1 @ 5:00pm, we will assume your family is NOT interested in the other option.

Dear Families:

Due to the events surrounding Covid-19 and the guidance from our national, state, and local leaders, our 2020 Youth Baseball Season has been impacted immensely. The BLBA Board of Directors has met several times since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Board of Directors has gone through many scenarios, possibilities, and solutions.

There are still many unknowns that surround the situation going forward from the ability to check out fields for use to parent organizations, like MYAS, deciding what to do.

After laying all of this on the table the BLBA Board of Directors has made the tough and unthinkable decision to cancel the BLBA hosted tournaments AND the Majors and Minors (Grades Pre-K-2nd grade) division.  Younger age groups are going to have a difficult time maintaining guidelines.

There will NOT be any mandatory volunteer hours to complete.  Volunteer checks will be shredded.  If you paid online, those refunds will be coming soon.  Refunds for the Majors/Minors will be taking place over the next few weeks.

Currently, the in-house and traveling seasons (grades 3-10) are still on, but this may be altered as we continue to receive updates.

I sincerely apologize for delivering this sad and unfortunate news.

Due to the events surrounding Covid-19 and the guidance from our national, state, and local leaders, our 2020 Youth Baseball Season has been impacted.  As of now, Gopher State is planning on having practices start June 1.  Our in-house program is planning on having practices start on June 1.  The Majors/Minors (Grades Pre-K-2) is planning on starting June 1.

If you decided that due to Covid-19, you do not want your player to play this season, please fill out the cancellation form below.  This option will close on May 22 @ 5:00pm.  You should receive your refund no later than June 20, 2020.  If we end up having to cancel our entire season, refunds will be given at that time for those who didn't indicate it previously.

ONLY fill this out if your child will NOT be playing baseball or for Big Lake Baseball in 2020 due to Covid-19. Families will get all their money back (minus a 5% processing fee--this is what BLBA gets charged through the website). You would not receive your uniform for this season.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

May 3, 2020

Dear families:

We are still in a holding pattern and are waiting for more direction from the governor and from Gopher State. The in-house season is slated to begin games the week of June 1.  Teams would play a full regular season and the playoffs would be July 17-19.

Gopher State has pushed the start date of the traveling season to start practicing the week of May 18.  A full season is planned, however there will be no playoffs.  The regular season would end July 29.

We are also monitoring everything for the Majors/Minors (grades Pre-K-2nd Grade).  We are pushing back the start of that season until we hear more information from the state.

The Big Lake Baseball board members are working to monitor the situation in the world around us and CDC guidelines.  HS softball and baseball have had their seasons canceled.  Since we do not know which direction the virus is going to go next, we are taking this day by day.  Safety of our participants are is biggest concern and we want to make sure we do the right thing.

There has been one cancellation thus far:  the 13 year-old tourney the weekend of May 29-31.  If you were scheduled to volunteer that weekend, more information will be coming out about signing up for a different weekend.

As soon as I hear something, I will let everyone know.

Please stay healthy!

Dear families:

We are still in a holding pattern and are waiting for more direction from the governor and from Gopher State. I did talk to the other communities we play for in-house, and they are all expressing interest in playing.  The in-house season is slated to begin the week of May 25 (starting on Tuesday, May 26).  Teams would play a full regular season and the playoffs would be July 17-19.

Gopher State has pushed the start date of the traveling season to start the week of May 18.  A full season is planned, however there will not be playoffs.  The regular season would end July 29.

We are planning to have a baseball season. The Big Lake Baseball board members are working to monitor the situation in the world around us and CDC guidelines.  HS softball and baseball have pushed the start time back until May 5.

Since we do not know which direction the virus is going to go next, we are taking this day by day.  Safety of our participants are is biggest concern and we want to make sure we do the right thing.

As soon as I hear something, I will let everyone know.

We are planning to have a baseball season. The Big Lake Baseball board members are working to monitor the situation in the world around us and CDC guidelines.

HS softball and baseball have pushed games back at least until April 6.  We envision a similar situation for youth baseball where the season is pushed back closer to summer, but have not received guidance or direction from MYAS. The BLBA board will work hard to monitor, adjust and inform.  MYAS (Gopher State) will be making an announcement in the next week or so, providing an update.

Since we do not know which direction the virus is going to go next, we are taking this day by day.  Safety of our participants are is biggest concern and we want to make sure we do the right thing.
